In-situ calibration

A time-consuming and disruptive process,

  • Isolate the loop and take the point out of service
  • Carry reference equipment to the point and work through
  • Adjust, document and return the point to service
  • An estimated hour or more per instrument, every interval

With Swap-to-Calibrate

  • Fresh calibrated instruments are delivered to you every cycle
  • Put in service mode, swap the sensor, and put back in service
  • Send the removed instrument back for as-found calibration (optional service)

Fits your infrastructure

Same cable and same PLC

Choose the connection that matches each area of your site. In every case the instruments report to your PLC, and no Eupry server is installed on site.

  • Existing 4-wire cable: The cable lands on the same terminals and the 24 V feed stays. A digital module replaces the analog input channel, and a function block writes into the same tags.
  • Existing 2-wire cable: Power and data on one pair. A line master in the cabinet signals by voltage level within 5–24 V, the instrument answers with current steps, and the PLC sees the same interface.
  • Ethernet: For new builds and areas with OT networking to the field. MQTT recovers buffered data natively, and a wide range of protocols such as OPC UA is supported. OPC UA | MQTT | Modbus | Profinet | EtherNet/IP

The problem

Calibration in situ costs hours (and headaches)

Every 4–20 mA loop is calibrated where it hangs. The transmitter, the PLC input channel and the scaling form one measuring system, so they are calibrated together, in place.

  • Time-consuming

Every sensor has to be checked with a reference instrument, taking around an hour or more per point.

  • Disruptive

The sensors need to be taken out of service while they are calibrated, which interrupts your production.

  • Manual

The certificate is written up after the work is done, and matching it to measurements is done by hand.

The solution

A saving that repeats every cycle

With Eupry's Swap-to-Calibrate proces, you receive newly calibrated sensors every cycle – ready to swap in seconds.

  • Arrives calibrated (no reference need)

Sensors are pre-calibrated in our ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab and arrive to you ready to swap.

  • Swapped on site (without disruptions)

Points are swapped direcly on-site and are out of service for only seconds – not hours.

  • Digital calibration (with a click)

The serial number travels with every measurement, and a digital certificate is tied to the number.

  • Your system stays (no new cabling)

Keep your cabling, PLC, SCADA and historian. HMI screens and alarms keep working.

  • Data stays in OT: No Eupry server on site and no OT-to-cloud link. Certificates are fetched on the enterprise IT side.
  • Recovery after an outage: Instruments buffer locally, up to 3 million measurements on the top version. The PLC reads them back.
  • Your PLC platform: Siemens S7-1500 is the reference design. Rockwell, ABB and Emerson DeltaV are confirmed in scoping.

Eupry Smart Instrument

Eupry temperature and humidity sensor.

One serial number and certificate sent with every measurement.

  • Calibrated in an accredited lab before it ships
  • Works with your existing cabling, PLC and SCADA
  • Swapped in service mode

Traceable by design

Calibrate the instrument, and the chain is calibrated

PLC, SCADA and historian transport and store the value, but they do not form it.

The serial number, recorded as a historian tag, links every value to its ISO/IEC 17025 certificate.

Your historian stays the record of truth.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ

Does the PLC need to do any scaling?

No, and it must not. The instrument delivers values in engineering units. If the PLC or SCADA applies a conversion, that calculation becomes part of the measuring chain and has to be verified during OQ.

What happens to the data during an exchange?

The point goes into service mode first, exactly as it does for in-situ calibration today. Alarms are suppressed by design and the data is flagged. Communication loss during the exchange is expected and is not raised as a process alarm.

What if the PLC restarts or the link drops?

Each instrument buffers its own measurements locally. On polled protocols such as Modbus, the function block reads back buffered samples by timestamp and sequence number until the historian is up to date. On OPC UA and MQTT Sparkplug B, the historian or broker recovers the data natively.

How do we know which certificate belongs to which measurement?

The instrument sends its serial number with its measurements. Record that as a historian tag, logged on change, and a join on timestamp shows which instrument, and therefore which certificate, produced every value.

What happens if an as-found calibration comes back out of tolerance?

We provide the full as-found data, and the impact assessment follows your own deviation procedure. As-found calibration is an optional service, and whether you need it is a QA decision.

Does anything connect from our OT network to Eupry?

No. No Eupry server is installed on site and there is no OT-to-cloud connection. Certificates are retrieved on the enterprise IT side, over outbound HTTPS from your CMMS.

Can firmware be updated remotely?

Over-the-air updates can be disabled, or the OT variant can be supplied without update capability. Firmware is refreshed through the regular instrument exchange instead.

Who does the PLC and SCADA work?

Usually your automation team or your system integrator. We supply the function blocks, the register map, reference wiring, and the IQ/OQ test scripts.

Do we have to buy the instruments?

Instruments are delivered as a service and exchanged per agreement, typically yearly, so the hardware and firmware stay current over the life of the facility without a separate spare-parts programme.
